Do you want to get the Netherlands financially fit? Then you have to start with the basics. And that, of course, is youth! Because changing something in the future requires acting now. 'Digital money has many advantages, but also makes it less visible. This makes the definition of what exactly money is increasingly unclear. Especially when children do not learn this from home," says Daan.
To really make a difference, Daan says it is important that children learn now how money works. Money may not make you happy. But if you don't have it, it can cause a lot of stress! To prevent that, it is important that children learn early on to make conscious choices and consider the consequences. Their understanding of money also changes over the years. The earlier they make wise decisions, the more fun they will have later on.'
Together you are stronger. So we started looking for a partner with the same mission. Soon Daan got in touch with the Financially Fit Kids Foundation (FFKF). This turned out to be a match made in heaven. 'This new foundation's mission is to make children financially aware and capable. They do this through books, games and providing guest lessons in schools. There was an immediate click!" he enthuses.
As a proud first-time sponsor, ANVA has already purchased thousands of books for children. We also encourage colleagues to give guest lectures. Daan kicked off and ANVA consultant Wilfred de Jong also gave two lessons. 'At home in our family we are very open about money, but this is far from the case everywhere. This lesson offers a piece of financial insight to children who lack this at home,' he says. And that is much needed! 'Some children, for example, have no idea that the Internet costs money. The lesson really gets kids thinking.'
'Meanwhile, guest lectures are given weekly, more than 200 guest lecturers have already given a lesson and more than 6,000 copies of the book 'The Journey to Wealth' have been distributed,' says Femke Hogema, author of the book and co-founder of the FFKF. 'Money is still too often seen as 'dirty'. A shame! It is so important and can be a lot of fun. That is clear from all the enthusiastic reactions to the book and the guest lectures.
