Dorine was one of the few trainees who already had experience in application management. Quite special, because she once started in a completely different field: biology and medical laboratory research. 'I soon found out that learning from a book is not for me,' she says. 'I got my propaedeutic to show that I could work at HBO level, but stopped after that.'
She started working as a warehouse worker at Jarola (a trade and service organization with technical products, ed.) and quickly advanced to team leader and project assistant. 'I was asked to help implement a new control system for the warehouse,' she says. 'And once that was in place, I was also allowed to manage it. I wanted to prove I could do more - that's how I rolled into application management.'
After more than seven years at Jarola, it was time for a new step. Dorine: 'When applying for jobs, I often hit a wall because I had too little experience. The traineeship at ANVA was perfect, because you get to work while learning. So I didn't really need to retrain, but still the insurance world is a completely different branch than the logistics world. But from moment one I felt right at home.
During the six-week training, Dorine drove an hour and a half from Hardenberg to Amersfoort four days a week. 'Six weeks seems short to learn something new, but it was a good kickstart,' she says. 'I especially liked working with the other trainees. You help each other and learn from each other. You also noticed how much energy the trainers and consultants put into it, which was really motivating.'
After the traineeship, Dorine worked at Jarola for a few more months before starting at Vrieling in January. 'What convinced us to choose Dorine was that we saw more in her than just an application manager,' says team leader Ewold Kok. 'She can pull projects and stand up to the business.' Ewold adds that Dorine now has a larger project on her plate and is going through nice developments. 'In short, she's running full steam ahead.'
Dorine is also very happy with her job at Vrieling. 'The atmosphere in the office is really good: challenging and collegial. After six weeks you have just mastered the basics, so I still have a lot to learn. Fortunately, I get a lot of support from my team leader and colleagues. There is so much challenge in application management, you always stay busy.'
